Side Story

A scroll story: text scrolls past a visual that pins beside it and changes with each step. Every step is in the page before anyone scrolls, a step list jumps to any step, reduced motion is honoured, and on a narrow screen it becomes one column with each visual above its text.

    Origin

    Grown at 1,800 metres

The beans come from one farm on a volcanic slope, where cool nights slow the cherries down and the sugars build. Every cherry is picked by hand, and only when it is ripe.

  2. 02 / 05

    12 days

    On raised beds

    Drying

    Twelve days in the sun

The cherries dry on raised beds and are turned by hand every hour. Too fast and the flavour goes flat; too slow and the fruit spoils on the bed.

  3. 03 / 05

    14 min

    For every batch

    Roasting

    Fourteen minutes, watched closely

Each batch follows its own curve and comes out a few seconds after first crack ends, so the fruit stays bright and nothing tastes burnt.

  4. 04 / 05

    3 days

    Before it leaves us

    Resting

    Three days before it ships

Fresh coffee is full of gas. A short rest lets it settle, so the water reaches every part of the grind when you brew.

  5. 05 / 05

    60 g

    To every litre of water

    Brewing

    Sixty grams to a litre

Use water just off the boil and a coarse grind. Pour, wait four minutes, press slowly, and pour again straight away.

Scroll and the visual changes as each step reaches the middle of the screen. Wide, it pins beside the text with a counter, a bar and a list that jumps to any step; narrow, every step carries its own visual.

The same component on the left, on dark, rising instead of fading, with its own four steps and no list. With reduced motion on, nothing fades or rises and a jump lands at once.
